One of the leading names in Irish music worldwide, County Sligo’s Dervish celebrate their 21st anniversary in 2010. During their years playing together, they have developed a truly distinctive sound, capturing the endless rhythms and complexities that go to make great Irish music. In this new, innovative and stylish production of The Sorcerer, Opera della Luna moves the story from its quaint Victorian setting to sleepy rural Britain in the 1970s. John Wellington Wells, celebrated dealer in “magic and spells”, spreads chaos and havoc when he places a powerful aphrodisiac in the village hall tea-pot. The resulting revelations cause many a terrible surprise.

Chumbawamba take to the stage to mark the release of their new album ABCDEFG, with new songs covering such diverse topics as the wearing of iPods in public places, censorship of music under repressive regimes and the power of the voice. They are joined by O’Hooley & Tidow, whose contemporary folk songs offer a wryly observant, melancholic and sometimes uncomfortable take on life.

An energetic night of song and dance from southern Africa. Black Umfolosi were formed in 1982 by school friends in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and in 2010 the Black Umfolosi 5 continue to present their spectacular songs and dances with a new line-up. Their trademark harmonies, intricate rhythms and clicking are complemented by choreography ranging from subtle steps to vibrant stomping and leaping. Their famous thumping gumboot dances showcase the traditional styles and rituals of the South African mining regions and are a big hit with audiences everywhere.
