The concept of a Storytree is age old, and is what its name suggests: it's a tree on which stories hang like fruit. And if it is not fed with new stories, it dies.

Every Storytree project is unique. Some sessions last an hour, some last months. The content changes but the aim remains the same: to unlock the imaginations of all who take part, to inspire them to listen, speak, create and collaborate.

The mission of Storytree is central to the way that the team operates. Each project is unique and whilst the central premise (the mission) is constant, the content is varied. Therefore in every Storytree activity, whether it takes place over an hour or years, there will always be a point of inspiration, exploration and celebration created through the exploration of character, worlds and journeys.

As Theatre by the Lake’s permanent team of specialist theatre practitioners Storytree creates theatre performances, projects and residencies. The team develops new work with and for people in education, festivals, communities and venues as well as members of the public.

Storytree is an ongoing exploratory theatre and story making process. It is an environment in which participants and practitioners develop, learn and share through theatre and story making experiences.

Whilst Storytree is designed to be accessible to all ages and abilities, the team also works with age or ability specific groups. It requires no more of the participant than imagination and the power of listening and speaking. As a learning tool it develops the communication of feelings and thoughts and encourages the exploration of expression.
