THEATRE BY THE LAKE ANNOUNCES SUMMER SEASON 2010

23/11/2009

As the communities of Keswick and Cumbria embark on the great clean-up following last week’s unprecedented flooding, Theatre by the Lake is already looking positively to the future.   Following the opening of the Christmas production, Grimm Tales on Saturday 28 November, they are holding their annual Season Launch on Monday 7 December at 10.30am in the theatre’s Main House. This free, public event is the first chance for theatre-goers and interested members of the public to hear what the popular lakeside theatre has planned for Summer Season 2010.

The record breaking Christmas production and Summer Season of 2008 was followed by yet another unprecedented success with this year’s Spring and Summer Season, meaning Theatre by the Lake’s Artistic Director, Ian Forrest, has the increasingly difficult task of programming yet another tempting season to meet the ever-increasing expectations of both visitors and locals alike.

Ian commented:

It’s extraordinary that each Summer Season seems to build from strength to strength.  We were particularly delighted by the enthusiastic response to A Midsummer Night’s Dream this summer, and audience demand was exceptional for the challenging work in the 2009 Studio season.  We believe that a large part of the success of our Summer Seasons is the varied programme of work on offer, from crowd pleasers in the Main House to cutting edge contemporary drama in the studio.  We hope to provide something for everyone and that is a balance we’re trying to strike again this year

Booking has already opened for this Spring Season’s production Stones in his Pockets by Marie Jones.  Described as ‘sad, hilarious and irresistible’, this award-winning comedy is set in a small rural town, not unlike Keswick, but in County Kerry, Ireland.  A Hollywood film crew take over the town to make a romantic period blockbuster.  They are there to capture the beauty of the landscape and many of the locals are employed as extras for the filming.  Among them are Charlie Conlon and Jake Quinn, happy to get their forty quid a day, but both searching for something more in life.  The production runs from Saturday 27 March until Saturday 17 April in the Main House and tickets cost between £22.50 and £8.

To hear more about this production and other plans for the theatre’s Summer Season 2010, come along to the Season Launch on Monday 7 December at 10.30am – no booking necessary and it’s free.

Theatre by the Lake is located adjacent to The Keswick Launch Company, a five minute walk from the town centre. For further information or to book please call Tickets and Information on 017687 74411.
